Term 1, 2025
Monday 3rd February 2025.
Monday is the FIRST day of each week and Saturday is the LAST day of each week.
Saturday 12th April 2025
Starting a new activity can be really exciting but also a bit scary at the same time. Especially for our younger students.
When you first arrive please come to reception and say hi at reception.
We will welcome you and show you where your name sticker will be each week.
Each class will begin with our coaches inviting students to come onto the gym floor so they can do a quick introduction.
In Week 1 this includes a welcome and some basic safety information for students.
Then the class will split into 3-4 groups (listed on their name tag).
From here the students will rotate between 4 stations of ~15 mins each with their coach/es for the day focussing on different skills on each station.
YES. We will always have school term classes on public holidays so that students on those days don't miss out on their class. If you missed it though you can organise a makeup class.
Parkour
Parkour is a training discipline that was initially developed from military obstacle course training in the late 80’s/early 90’s.
The goal of Parkour is to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without assistive equipment, in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
Parkour includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, plyometrics, rolling, quadrupedal movement (crawling) and other movements as deemed most suitable for the situation.
There are a lot of similarities between Parkour and Gymnastics.
They both involve mastery of your own body through space and require full body strength, mobility and coordination.
The primary difference is that Gymnastics is about competition and demonstration/expression whereas Parkour is non-competitive and practical/functional.
There are some international competitions for Parkour that include things like speed runs but at its heart, Parkour is simply a training method for getting strong, fit and learning to control your body and mind while having fun.
Freerunning takes Parkour and adds in a bit more freedom for expression and flair.
It includes flips and tricks with the goal of not just getting from A to B as efficiently as possible but with as much personal expression and complexity as possible.
These flips and tricks make it a very popular discipline for kids who love to watch the latest movements on YouTube however we don’t teach these tricks or flips until the very late stages of our program because of the higher risk and lower practicality of the movements.
Classes
All of our Parkour Academy classes run for 60 minutes.

Unfortunately, no.
During the class our attention is with our students and it is impossible and dangerous to try to supervise additional children.
It also distracts the class participants.
No, you are more than welcome to drop off your kids and come pick them up afterwards.
We understand that for some of the younger kids it is nice to have a parent around especially if they are new to training at Movement Co so we have designated an area for parents to sit, relax and watch class.
It is very important that all spectators remain in the designated waiting area. Wandering around the gym can lead to accidents and injuries.
In order to minimise the number of people on the gym floor please refrain from sitting anywhere outside our wooden floor waiting area or our reception/couch area.
- Enclosed running/sport shoes
- Clothing suitable for running, jumping and climbing
- Water
Our obstacles have a textured surface that mimics outdoors surfaces and makes it safer for students to climb and grip but this can be rough on bare feet/exposed toes.
Unfortunately, no.
Due to safety reasons we do not allow children to play on equipment before or after class, even if directly supervised by their parents.
No. Under normal class conditions we would appreciate if parents did not get involved or attempt to assist their children.
All of our coaches are highly skilled in coaching Parkour to children.
Additional or conflicting instructions from parents may interfere with your child's learning.
If your child has special requirements and needs additional support then please discuss it with your child's coach prior to class and they will be happy to make it work.
Levels and Grading
In Week 9 all students in Level 2+ will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their proficiency in each movement we teach.
We grade the first half of our syllabus in Term 1+3 and the other half in Term 2+4.
Students need to show confidence and technical mastery of the skills before our coaches will assess them as passed.
Once students have attained the prerequisite number of movements for each level they will be presented with a certificate and can continue to work towards the next level.
NOTE: Level 5 and Level 9 include conditioning requirements because as students progress, the need for strength, fitness and endurance is just as important as being able to perform the skills we teach.
Each of our classes are split into 3 groups based on their current level.
Group 1 | Level 1 |
Group 2 | Level 2 |
Group 3 | Level 3+ |
In theory we should have up to 10 students in each group, all at the same level.
In reality this is rarely the case so sometimes students are placed up or down a group to balance numbers but we still do our best to give them movements and challenges appropriate to their level.
